Watch: LCD Soundsystem Kick Off London Residency

Yesterday night, LCD Soundsystem launched their six-night residency at the Brixton Academy in London. During the performance, the Brooklyn, N.Y. institution–led by James Murphy– shared some of their most beloved tracks.

The set included deliveries of “Dance Yrself Clean,” “Daft Punk Is Playing At My House,” “Losing My Edge” and their iconic hometown anthem “New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down.” They closed the first night in London with an enlivening sped-up version of “All My Friends” to beat the 11 p.m. curfew.

LCD Soundsystem still have five more nights left in The Swinging City and plenty of tracks off their expansive catalog to share with their friends over the pond. The performance in London serves as yet another pillar of LCD Soundsystem’s ongoing comeback and comes on the heels of the music collective announcing residencies in Oakland and San Fransisco in August.

Back in March, Murphy wrote a statement sharing some intimate details on his and the band’s views on touring – following their 20-night residency at Brooklyn Steel which was cut short due to the Omicron variant of COVID-19. He wrote, “We talked about just playing some shows in New York, since most of us live here, and not making it too big of a deal. Like, just playing because we like it and because we like one another. Just be a New York band for a bit. And maybe we’ll do something like that every year. Just stay in shape, if that makes sense.”

He continued to write, “You stand still long enough, and it all spins back around. Dreams never end…We’ll play again. And it won’t be in, like, five years.” Considering LCD Soundsystem’s current trajectory it seems Murphy and company will more than likely make good on their word.
