Today, Drugdealer announced their first studio album post the COVID-19 pandemic, Hiding in Plain Sight, will release on Oct. 28 via Mexican Summer. The announcement of the LP–which will serve as the follow-up to their 2019 album Raw Honey–was shared with the project’s lead single, “Someone to Love,” and an official music video directed by James Manson.
“‘Someone to Love’ came out of an impromptu extended jam that my band and I developed show by show on the last full U.S. tour. Then when we got home and I started working on this new stuff I realized it was one of the best moments of us naturally playing,” Drugdealer’s Michael Collins said in a statement. “I turned it into a fully fleshed out song about wanting to be truly loved unconditionally, and pretty instantly became my favorite thing I had written and pretty much still sits there.” The track features contributions from American pianist and record producer John Carroll Kirby and New Orleans rock band Video Age.
Along with the album announcement, Drugdealer shared they’ll be going on tour in support of the project, which will kick off with a performance at The Rock in Luis Obispo, Calif., on Sept. 22. After performing with Toro y Moi at the Fernwood Resort in Big Sur, Calif. on Sept. 24 the band will rest until a Halloween show at The Chapel in San Francisco, Calif. From there they’ll tour extensively through November hitting major cities including Portland, Ore., Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, Ontario, Boston, New York, Nashville, Tenn., Atlanta, and more. They’ll close the tour back on the West Coast with a show at the Soda Bar in San Diego on Dec. 6.
