Warren Haynes will receive an honorary degree from the University of North Carolina Asheville on May 11. He will be honored at the UNCA commencement ceremony, which will take place at 9am on the University Quadrangle. Haynes is native of Asheville, and the guitarist has held his annual Christmas Jam in the city for a number of years. Those events have also raised more than $1 million for the Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity. Poet Nikki Giovanni will deliver the ceremony’s commencement address.

In other Warren Haynes news, Gov’t Mule’s Island Exodus V destination festival will take place January 15-19 at the Breezes Grand Resort in Negril, Jamaica. The rest of the lineup has not yet been announced, but the event will include three Gov’t Mule shows, as well as a Haynes solo show. Island Exodus will begin accepting reservation on noon ET on Monday, April 29.
