Vinyl Sales Surge As Jack White, Arctic Monkeys, The Black Keys and More Top List

Vinyl’s resurgence continued in 2014, as The Wall Street Journal noted that nearly eight million records were purchased this year, marking a 49% sales increase from 2013. Among the top LPs sold this year include Jack White’s Lazaretto, which smashed Pearl Jam’s record for Vitalogy with over 75,000 units sold.

Other selections include Arctic Monkeys’ AM, The Black Keys latest Turn Blue, Lana Del Rey’s Born to Die and Beck’s Morning Phase.

The centerpiece of The Wall Street Journal‘s story is the process of pressing records and the logjam that is occurring with some plants. With vinyl sales surging, the plants are struggling to keep up due to a lack of funding and the 15 or so still-running factories that press records face daily challenges with breakdowns and supply shortages.
