Today, NFL Films announced that Phish’s Trey Anastasio will be featured on their next broadcast tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 23, at 9:30 pm PT. The promotional clip, which was shared on Twitter, shows Anastasio talking about his connection with the Jets, Nick Mangold and why Mangold should be in the NFL Hall of Fame.
“Nick Mangold, to me, represents everything that I love about football an about, you know, being on a team,” Anastasio said in the video. “You think about the center. He’s got his hand on the ball every single play. Every play. Nick Mangold always showed up. He was, like consistently, the heart and soul of the grit of the Jets.”
Anastasio went on to say with a coy grin, “We are all aware that the Jets don’t have the most successful history in the modern era of football. But if you look really closely, and this is my argument for Nick being in the Hall of Fame, he was drafted in 2006, and that was an era where the team was being built from the inside out. The offesnve line, the way a football team should be built, and lo and behold, by 2009, 2010, they had two of their best years ever.”
Towards the end of the clip, Anastasio added, “Every football fan is going to be proud to see Nick Mangold in the Hall of Fame… You can’t just put the pretty boys in the hall of fame.”
Enjoy the “unlikely connection” tomorrow on Fox Sports 1.
An unlikely connection between @phish and football.
