Last night, Trey Anastasio rolled into Kansas City, Mo. with another performance in his expansive solo acoustic tour. Onstage at the Uptown Theater, the iconic Phish frontman continued his celebrated series of intimate performances with a setlist finely honed in small rooms across the country. While the bulk of this ninth staging on his 2025 run was made up of recurring favorites, Anastasio served his fans in the Show-Me State two bust-outs—the latter by audience request.
Anastasio set off his Kansas City set with the Billy Breathes fan favorite “Free,” which proved an exciting opener at two prior stops on the solo acoustic tour. The guitar and vocal powerhouse followed this introduction into a rapid-fire string of classic Phish cuts from throughout the band’s four-decade history, including highlights like “The Inlaw Josie Wales,” “Summer of ‘89,” “Dog Faced Boy” and “Backwards Down the Number Line.”
At the performance’s midpoint, Trey switched things up with a bust out of the beloved Joy centerpiece “Kill Devil Falls”; the anthemic barn-burning track was a smoldering standout when delivered acoustically, arriving in a solo set for the first time since July 2021. After slowing down and getting strange with “Twist,” the artist met popular demand in the hall by staging “Let Me Lie,” the cult classic 2006 Bar 17 cut, for the first time since October 2016. The one and only solo original offered in a set packed with Phish essentials was met with a roar from the crowd of devotees.
Anastasio wound through the remainder of his set with “Brian and Robert,” “Reba” and “Split Open and Melt” before pouring his improvisational talents into an unidentified acoustic solo interlude. Finally, to wrap the show, the artist brought on an encore of “Bug” and “What’s the Use?”
Anastasio will return to the stage tomorrow with a performance at New Orleans’ historic Saenger Theatre; he’ll remain on the road for ten further sets through April 5. For tickets and more information on the outing, visit trey.com.
