The Smile have announced they’ll release a new live album, The Smile At Montreux Jazz Festival July 2022, on Dec. 14. The offering is a seven-track, digital-only release of songs performed by the trio–comprised of Tom Skinner and Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood–at Montreaux Jazz Festival in Switzerland earlier this year.
The performance saw The Smile play a collection of tracks from their debut album, A Light For Attracting Attention. In celebration of the release of the live album and in honor of those who performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival before them (Miles Davis, Nina Simone, Wu-Tang Clan, Nile Rodges, Anna von Hausswolff, and more), The Smile will broadcast a film containing their songs on their YouTube channel the day before the live album’s release on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 8 p.m. GMT / 3 p.m. EST. The video will be live for just 48 hours and will also include clips of the debut of “Bending Hectic,” which was written on the day of their performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival.
The Smile are currently on tour in North America and just last month stopped by NPR to record a Tink Desk Concert set to air on Jan. 3, 2023.
