Grammy Award-winning artist and co-founder of The Roots, Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter, is set to share the stage with host, comedian, and political satirist Jon Stewart for a captivating discussion centered around Trotter’s recently published memoir, The Upcycled Self. The event is scheduled to take place at BAM’s Howard Gilman Opera in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Nov. 14.

Trotter’s memoir, The Upcycled Self: A Memoir on the Art of Becoming Who We Are, delves into his personal journey, offering readers a courageous portrayal of his life’s transformation. The narrative, penned in Trotter’s own words, probes the universal questions that challenge individuals during their early years, offering a deeply emotional and bluesy coming-of-age story.

Through poignant vignettes, the memoir explores four significant relationships that have significantly shaped Trotter: those with community, friends, art, and family. Each relationship represents a complex tapestry of discovery, love, trauma, and loss, providing readers with a raw examination of his formative years.

The event is co-presented by BAM and Greenlight Bookstore. Tickets start at $35, with all premium ticket holders receiving a copy of Trotter’s memoir at the venue. Tickets can be purchased through BAM’s official website, BAM.org.
