The Roots Announce Third Annual Roots Picnic Con, Kicking Off 2025 Festival

The Roots Picnic has announced the return of Roots Picnic Con, the conference counterpart to the celebrated Philadelphia festival. On May 30, one day before the weekend of music begins at The Mann in Fairmount Park, The Roots and Live Nation Urban will partner to present their third-annual day-long program of conversations and panels.

Onstage at Punchline Pilly, a total of 25 speakers will share their insights on a wide range of topics, including music education, personal finances, technology and more. Panels presented by Starz, Everytown for Gun Safety, The Recording Academy, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and others will welcome thought leaders like SEIU President April Verrett and Black Music Action Coalition Co-Founder and President Willie “Prophet” Stiggers. The event will close with a keynote conversation between filmmaker Malcolm D. Lee and Tarik “Black Thought” Trotter, who will respectively discuss their new books The Best Man Unfinished Business and The Upcycled Self.

The conference will set off the festivities of The Roots Picnic 2025, which will a lineup of more than 40 acclaimed acts from the worlds of hip-hop, R&B, funk and everything in between to the City of Brotherly Love. This year’s headliners are Miguel, Tems, Latto, Jeezy, Meek Mill, Lenny Kravitz, Glorilla, Kaytranada and a highly anticipated collaboration between The Roots and D’Angelo. Some of the bill’s other highlights include Musiq Soulchild celebrating 25 years of Aijuswanaseing, J.Period’s live mixtape with Black Thought, Pusha T and 2 Chainz and The Roots’ 30th-anniversary return to Do You Want More?!!!??!, which was also the focus of an outstanding residency at Blue Note New York in March.
