This past Wednesday night, The Black Crowes celebrated the release of their EP, 1972, with an 80-minute set at the iconic Whisky a GoGo on West Hollywood’s famed Sunset Strip.  In conjunction with Amazon Music, the performance was live-streamed on twitch.tv, and featured a setlist divided between a full rendition of the EP and a mini-set of Crowes classics.  Opening with The Rolling Stones’ “Rocks Off,” the 8-piece group, led by brothers Chris and Rich Robinson, charged through the EP’s six cuts.  With Blackberry Smoke’s Charlie Starr guesting on guitar for the entire evening, the Crowes rocked T-Rex’s “The Slider” and Rod Stewart’s “You Wear It Well,” pausing to note Little Feat’s appearance at the venue on this date 50 years earlier as Rich led a take on Feat’s “Easy to Slip.”  The group closed the EP portion with David Bowie’s “Moonage Daydream” and The Temptations’ “Papa Was a Rolling Stone,” then launched the bookend set of their own with “Thorn in My Pride.”  Touching down on highlights from the venerated band’s 30-year catalog, the Crowes run of a half-dozen nuggets included “She Talks to Angels,” “Wiser Time,” and a final “Remedy.”
