On Feb. 18, Yoko Ono will turn 90 years old. As the date approaches, her eldest son, Sean Ono Lennon, has made a virtual Wish Tree, where fans and followers can deliver birthday messages online and have real trees planted in honor of the iconic artist/peace activist.
Wish Tree is associated with One Tree Planted, which aims to help the environment by planting trees to restore forests, generate biodiverse habitats, and create a positive social impact on a global scale.
Since its inception in 1996, Ono has received more than 2 million wishes from more than 200 physical installations of the Wish Tree in over 35 countries. The latest iteration of the website allows virtual wishes to be posted online on an interactive platform.
According to Ono’s initial instructions for Wish Tree, she requested: “Make a wish. Write it down on a piece of paper. Fold it and tie it around a branch of a Wish Tree. Ask your friend to do the same. Keep Wishing. Until the branches are covered with wishes.”
Wish Tree for Yoko Ono was generated by James Swindells and Loud Beings for Sean Ono Lennon.
