A 34-year old Phish fan returning from the band’s three-night stint in Mexico was one of the first to alert the Transportation Security Administration that passengers were being allowed to exit a flight from Cancun without clearing customs. The New York Daily News first reported the story that 150 passengers were allowed to skip customs from JFK Airport in New York.

“It’s absolutely absurd,” the business adviser told The News. “To think that anyone could be walking off of that plane and just get right into the city. It could be terrorists, El Chapo’s henchmen, anyone. “I told them what happened and asked them what should I do,” the passenger said. “They said to me ‘That’s fine, you’re OK. Go ahead.’ ”

American Airlines officials also called him, among others, urging him to return to the airport to complete the process. “You could tell that they knew they screwed up and were desperate to get me to come,” he noted.
