Modest Mouse’s founding drummer, Jeremiah Green, has been diagnosed with stage four cancer. News broke on Christmas day when the musician’s mother confirmed the prognosis on her Facebook page.

Included in the post were images of Green on stage with his bandmates, in front of the drum kit, and alongside family members, with the caption: “Please send healing vibes for my son, Jeremiah Green, who is battling stage 4 cancer. He’s so strong and so brave and hanging in there!”

In addition to the artist’s mother, Seattle radio disc jockey Marco Collins added comments to his Instagram account, “Just found out my friend Jeremiah Green (Modest Mouse) has pulled off the band’s tour because he is currently undergoing chemo treatments to battle Stage 4 Cancer. Despite having a stage 4 diagnosis, his prognosis is good! Also, his oncologist is a big MM fan (so he’s got that in his corner!).”

Collins noted the Green had initially appeared on stage during Modest Mouse’s early stops of their 25th-anniversary tour for their second studio album, The Lonesome Crowded West, but has since stepped away from the excursion to focus on his health.

Green co-founded the Portland, Ore., based rock ground in 1993 with frontman Issac Brock and the group’s bassist, Eric Judy. Most recently, the band delivered 2021’s The Golden Casket, which featured singles “We Are Between,” “Leave a Light On” and “The Sun Hasn’t Left.”
