Metallica Announced as Record Store Day Ambassadors
The Record Store Day Ambassadors for 2016 are the four members of rock and metal legends Metallica. The band is the official sponsor of the yearly celebration of record stores and indie music retailers worldwide, which is in its ninth year. Record Store Day began in 2008 when Metallica played an in-store performance and met fans at a record store in California to kick off the inaugural celebration.
Metallica will be releasing remastered editions of their seminal albums Kill ‘Em All and Ride the Lightning, and to announce their ambassadorships, the band participated in a video in which they recounted their various memories and thoughts about the importance of record stores, including guitarist Kirk Hammett talking about visiting a store an hour away from his house to check the imports section for new European metal. “That was even before there was a heavy metal section,” Hammett says.
Drummer Lars Ulrich has some fun with the video, which was mostly scripted by the RSD team, by adding in his own commentary and promising a toaster, a microwave, some tires and tickets to the Caribbean in addition to all the additional items that will be included in the box set of the two rereleased albums.
Record Store Day 2016 will take place on Saturday, April 16. Get more information on the event here.
