Fruition have released their second new single of the year, “Feeling Weird.” The new number arrives after “Hard to Make Money,” which also serves as the name of their impending tour, which commences next week on Wednesday, March 13, at the Music Box in Cleveland and will be followed by Midwest stops in Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, and Minnesota.
Songwriter and lead vocalist on the single Kellen Asebroek shared background on the new song via press release. He offered, “Feeling Weirdʻ is a bit of a Fruition deep-cut. We’ve had it in our back pocket for over a decade now and I think the lyrical content kinda reflects that; a youthful mix of silliness and melancholy. Born literally from a hungover van-ride after a long night of partying, back in the days where we would sleep on the floors and couches of whoever was brave enough to host a whole pack of road-dogs.”
“Even though on the surface the song says ʻwoe is meʻ, it also has just enough emotional maturity to recognize that the problems and troubles I was experiencing were of my own doing – and that it would be my own responsibility to course-correct them. Lastly, I styled this tune to be a nod to the great comical-yet-heartbroken tradition of folk songwriters like John Prine and John Hartford. Because after all, life has a tendency to often be comically heartbreaking, doesn’t it,” the musician concluded.
According to the Portland, Ore. band’s official press release, they have been at work writing and recording new music over the past year. The group noted that some of the fresh material will be performed on the road, making its way to forthcoming setlists and serving as the latest listen at Fruition’s trademark sound.
