Kamasi Washington To Replace Wynton Marsalis on Newport Jazz Fest’s 2021 Lineup

Newport Jazz Festival has made a quick lineup change to its Friday, June 30 lineup, as saxophonist Kamasi Washington takes the place of trumpeter Wynton Marsalis.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond my control I, regretfully, will be unable to perform at Newport Jazz this year,” Marsalis said via press release. “I was looking forward to returning to Newport once again and am disappointed that I cannot be with you. Best wishes for a successful weekend of great jazz!”
Washington is still touring in support of his acclaimed 2018 LP, Heaven and Earth, but he released a new single – “Sun Kissed Child” – just last week.
