Jack Johnson’s tour rolled into Berkeley, Calif., last night for the first of two shows at the legendary Greek Theatre. The performance featured a diverse mixture of career-spanning tunes and a surprise appearance by Dan Lebowitz of Animal Liberation Orchestra.

Johnson kicked off his main set with a performance of “Mudfootball,” an upbeat jam from his debut solo record, Brushfire Fairytales. The opener was followed by a variety of fan favorites, including hits “Sitting, Waiting, Wishing” and a melody of “Upside Down/Time Is The Master/Badfish.”  

Seven songs in, Johnson welcomed Lebowitz to the stage. The collaboration wasn’t all too surprising, as Johnson’s keyboardist Zach Gill is Lebowitz’s bandmate in ALO. Furthermore, Johnson has been an old friend and collaborator of ALO since their college days, signing them to his label, Brushfire Records, in 2006. 

Lebo sat in for four songs: “Meet The Moonlight,” “Constellations,” “One Step Ahead,” and “Flake/In The Summertime.” After he left the stage, Johnson and his band tore through another 10 songs before wrapping up their main set with the hit “Good People.” Shortly after leaving the stage, the band returned for a five-song encore that wrapped up with the soothing sing-along “Angel/Better Together.”
