Grateful Dead Detail New Box Set _July 1978: The Complete Recordings_
The Grateful Dead will release July 1978: The Complete Recordings, an extensive box set featuring five shows on 12 discs from the band’s early July run that included stops in Kansas City, MO at Arrowhead Stadium, St. Paul’s Civic Center Arena, Omaha Civic Auditorium and two shows at Red Rocks.
The show marks the first official recordings from the long lost Betty Boards that were recently returned to the Grateful Dead vault. Helmed by Betty Cantor-Jackson, the shows also feature the Dead’s first ever appearance at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Rolling Stone has premiered “Wharf Rat” from the July 8 show at Red Rocks.
“To many ears, mine included, 1978 is considered one of the best years in Grateful Dead history, keeping the momentum going from the excellence of 1977 Dead,” Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux told Rolling Stone. “These five shows are from one of the best weeks of the one of the best years in the Grateful Dead’s 30 years performing career.”
Due out on May 13, the box set is available for pre-order currently on Dead.net.
