Eric Krasno and Ross James Detail Jimi Hendrix and Grateful Dead New Year’s Mashup Project Set for Denver

Today, Eric Krasno and Ross James announced they’ll be debuting a new project celebrating the music of the Grateful Dead and Jimi Hendrix at Knew Conscious in Denver on New Year’s Eve. The guitarists of Soulive and Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band, respectively, will tout the high-octane mashup group as Jimi’s Dead, on which Alex Koford will provide percussion – rounding out the trio.
Throughout the evening, the three plan to usher in 2023 by masterfully and seamlessly weaving the aqueous and peerless guitar runs of Hendrix with the improvisational energy and vibrations the Grateful Dead shared with the world during 1972. The event will begin at 11 p.m. local time and go until 4 a.m. the following morning.
“Jimi & GD were probably the 2 most influential artists for me when I was a teenager and first picking up the guitar. The music has stayed with me and permeated every project I’ve been involved in,” Krasno said in a statement. “When Ross called me about doing some trio gigs, we thought it made perfect sense to do mash-ups of Jimi and the Dead. The idea is to try to tap into the energy of the Band Of Gypsies & early GD while adding our own flavor.”
James added, “Kraz and I have been talking about cooking something up together for a while…we were on the phone one day, and Jimi’s Dead just came out. We were both like, “YES!!”. Hendrix is pretty much where it all started for me and getting to play bass on those tunes with Kraz on guitar is about as much fun as you can have.”
