Don Cheadle to Play Miles Davis in Upcoming Biopic

November 13, 2013

Don Cheadle will portray legendary musician Miles Davis in an upcoming biopic, Kill the Trumpet Player. In addition to playing Davis, Cheadle will also make his directorial debut with this project, teaming with writer Steve Baigelman to craft the script. No release date is confirmed as of yet. The film is set to focus on Davis’ temporary retirement and subsequent return to music in 1979.

Ewan McGregor and Zoe Saldana will also star in the film, as a Rolling Stone reporter and Davis’ former wife Frances, respectively. Longtime Davis collaborator Herbie Hancock will also be involved in production, which is set to begin in June.

Cheadle, known for his work in films such as Crash, Iron Man and the Ocean’s Eleven series, has expressed desire to green-light this project for a while. Here is the actor talking about the role on an episode of Feherty in 2011.
