On Saturday, Nov. 5, Dolly Parton and the 2022 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2022 class celebrated their career milestone with a performance of “Jolene” at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. During the induction ceremony, the ever-reluctant star – who initially requested her name be removed from the list – shouted with glee, “I guess I’m a rock star now!”
During her performance of her iconic, timeless song, Parton was joined by Rob Halford of Judas Priest, Brandi Carlile, P!nk, Zac Brown Band, Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran, and Eurythmics’ Annie Lenox. During the song, they swapped lead vocal responsibilities showing the diverse styles that had led them heights of Rock Hall recognition.
“This is a very special night for me. I’m sure a lot of you knew that back when they said they were gonna put me in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I didn’t feel like I had done enough to deserve that,” said Parton said during her speech. “And I didn’t understand at the time that it’s about more than that. But I’m just so honored and so proud to be here tonight.”
Before Parton and the inductees performed “Jolene,” she spoke to viewers about her plans to debut a new song titled “Rockin’.” Other “rock” outsiders inducted this year included Lionel Richie, Eminem, and Carly Simon. The evening also saw Ritchie and Dave Grohl perform “Easy,” Eminem and Ed Sheeran collaborate on the former’s song “Stan,” and Steven Tyler perform “Sing For The Moment.”
