Dogs in a Pile Welcome Kanika Moore for First-Time Amy Winehouse Cover
Last night, Dogs in a Pile took their Distroid Spring Tour to The Pour House in Charleston, S.C. The latest stop on the New Jersey band’s current outing featured guest accompaniment from a local resident and leading voice, Kanika Moore, who assisted the band in driving home Amy Winehouse’s signature track, “Rehab.” The first frame sit-in was trailed by originals and choice covers that touched on tracks by Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Joe Cocker and others.
Tuesday’s show found the five-piece start with “Craig and Pat,” which smacked into “You Didn’t Hear It From Me.” “Ugly Song” continued the night’s initial mission to provide their fans with well-placed originals before sinking their teeth into covers. Next, “Hesitate” came ahead of Moore’s arrival on her homestage. There, the songstress belted out the aughts standard, leaning into playful territory in recognition of the track’s popularity and crowd approval.
Before concluding set one, the group played through “Mr. Tooker” sans assistance. The latter half of the event started with Hendrix’s signature “Fire,” ahead of a sequence of “Frosty” > “It Gets Better.” After a couple more originals, the band simmered on The Who’s “Pinball Wizard,” which ran into Cannonball Adderley’s “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy.”
The final stretch of the concert saw a convergence of “Creep” and “Thomas Duncan, Pt. 2” to cap set two. During the band’s return to the stage for the evening’s encore, they picked up Joe Cocker’s “Space Captain” as their final sendoff. After last night’s show, Dogs in a Pile will take an evening off before resuming their tour tomorrow night, April 2, in Washington, D.C. Tickets remain on sale.
