Barack Obama Shares Annual Favorite Songs Playlist

44th president of the United States, Barack Obama, shared his annual list of favorite songs. 2022’s list included 25 songs, with 13 of the artists featured currently nominated for Grammys.
The list of songs–which follows Obama’s favorite books of the year and his favorite movies of the year–includes selects by Danger Mouse & Black Thought featuring MF DOOM, Omar Apollo, Steve Lacy, SZA, Lizzo, Bad Bunny, Kendrick Lamar, SiR, Tank and The Bangas and more.
“I always enjoy sharing my end of year music playlist with all of you — and this year we heard a lot of great songs. Here are some of my favorites,” Obama wrote in a tweet that also included a list of his picks. “Are there any songs or artists I should check out?”
Some of the suggestions from the former President’s followers included recommendations for Primus, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, The Mollusk by Ween, which was brought to the attention of Obama by comedian Duncan Trussell.
Lizzo was the only returning artist who was featured on Obama’s playlist for two years in a row – 2021’s list included songs by The War on Drugs with Lucius, Mitski, Brandi Carlile, Durand Jones & The Indications, Jon Batiste, Allison Russel and more. The return to Obama’s list wasn’t the only presidential connection for Lizzo this year, who also famously performed with James Madison’s crystal flute in Washington, D.C. in September.
