Today Nashville’s Amanda Shires unveiled “Take It Like A Man,” the title track from her forthcoming studio album, due on July 29 via ATO Records. The single was released in conjunction with the news of a tour in support of the release set for the fall.

Take It Like A Man was written during the COVID-19 pandemic and features Shire’s husband, Jason Isbell, American country singer-songwriter Brittney Spencer and Arlington and Texas’ Maren Morris. The title track follows the 10-track LP’s lead single, “Hawk For The Dove,” which was released in May and features production by Lawrence Rothman – like the rest of the album.

“Take It Like A Man” was co-written by Rothman and Shires and at first had closing lyrics as “Take it like a man,” but that was changed to “Take it like Amanda.” Shines explained the change in a statement, saying, “I realized you can try and do what they say and take it like a man and show that you can withstand anything. But truly you can only take it like yourself.”

The song was released along with a music video filmed at Nashville’s Columbia Records studio by Weston Heflin. On the song, Shires is backed by Isbell on guitar, Julian Dorio on drums, Jimbo Hart on bass, Peter Levin on keyboards and a string section comprised of Kristin Weber, Josse Weigand and Austin Hoke.

Shires is set to take off on the North American tour in support of Take It Like A Man starting in Asheville, N.C., on Sept. 6. She’ll continue to make stops across the U.S. and Canada until Nov. 20, when she’ll close out her performances with a show in Omaha, Neb.
