The Big Climate Thing Postpones September Gathering, Cite Inability to Meet “High Standards”
The Big Climate Thing, a three-day festival that was scheduled to put on its inaugural gathering at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, N.Y., from Sept. 16 through 18, has been postponed. The event was constructed to raise awareness about climate change and had high-profile acts including The Roots, Flaming Lips, Khruangbin, The War on Drugs, Courtney Barnett, Haim and more to assist on their mission.
In the statement postponing the event, organizers wrote, “The artists, climate movement leaders, and partners of this event take the responsibility of representing those fighting for survival on the front lines of ecological disaster and environmental justice incredibly seriously.” They continued, stating, “Collectively, we felt that if we couldn’t produce the event in a way that met the high standards for participation and impact that are the foundation of The Big Climate Thing, then it was the responsible choice to postpone until we can.”
They closed the statement by expressing their gratitude for the chance to form “a vital community and look forward to a reimagined event in 2023.”
