The inaugural Waterloo Music Festival wrapped up its first three-day gathering on Sunday night with a final headlining performance from The String Cheese Incident, who played each evening of the festival and marked their closing set with a special, Texas-themed encore that included a debut cover from the group.

Earlier in the day, Waterloo’s offerings from Carson Creek Ranch outside Austin, TX, featured music from Railroad Earth, Leftover Salmon, the Easy Star All Stars, Pimps of Joytime and more. String Cheese then took to the main stage for a six-song final set that included some of their live staples like “Let’s Go Outside” and closed with “It Is What It Is.”

SCI’s two-song encore kicked off with a cover of Billy Joe Shaver’s “Live Forever,” a live debut for the band (Shaver, a Texas songwriting and outlaw-country icon, penned the song with his son Eddy, and it appeared in the soundtrack for the 2009 Jeff Bridges movie Crazy Heart, in which Robert Duvall performed the tune). String Cheese then rounded out their stint at Waterloo with an appropriate run of “Texas.”
