Watch: Umphrey’s McGee Play St. Patrick’s Park in South Bend
Today is the high holy day of St. Patrick himself and to celebrate, why not visit our favorite Irish drinking band playing in their homeland. Umphrey’s McGee identify with Chicago, but their spirit hails from South Bend, IN as the band routinely played there in their infancy at a variety of venues, with some of those coming at St. Patrick’s Park. Yes, of course South Bend, IN, home of Notre Dame, has a park called St. Patrick’s Park. For all we know, it’s littered with four-leaf clovers, leprechauns and Catholic guilt.
The band actually played the park itself in 1998, but eventually graduated to the Robert J. Fischgrund Center for the Performing Arts located in the park. This is where we find them in 2008 performing a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Breathe” on the eve of Notre Dame beating San Diego State 21-13 in their season opener.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day from all of us here at Relix!
And let’s not forget the Irish themselves were graced with some Death By Stereo tape before running out of the tunnel.
