Watch Ryan Adams & The Cardinals at Lollapalooza 2006 Including Three Grateful Dead Covers

May 5, 2017

New to YouTube is this full set from a very interesting period in the history of Ryan Adams & The Cardinals as Adams was joined by Neal Casal, bassist Cat Popper, Jon Graboff and drummer Brad Pemberton for a set at Lollapalooza in 2006.

While the group was between 2005’s Jacksonville City Nights and 2008’s Cardinology, they worked in a number of cuts from their past work as well as Adams’ extensive catalog along with three Grateful Dead covers–‘He’s Gone,” “Wharf Rat” and a “Franklin’s Tower” towards the end of the set.

While the first two are relatively common covers in Adams’ repertoire (as well as his time with Phil Lesh & Friends), “Franklin’s Tower” appeared very briefly in the summer of 2006, performed eight times by the group, this being the sixth run through of the song.
