Watch: Ryan Adams Performs, Talks New Album, Band
This has been a fun year for Ryan Adams. Armed with a new self-titled record and wildly successful tour, the singer-songwriter sat down during his stop in Toronto with CBC Radio to talk all things Ryan Adams including his new band and new outlook on life.
All in all, the interview is 40-minutes of Ryan being Ryan (“I wash my hands twice as much as normal so I don’t catch Instagram”) with insightful takes on his new band and how he believes they are gelling on the road. “I hear (my songs) reaching their potential,” he says, citing the Cold Roses cut “Magnolia Mountain” which he says he’s never felt close to when performing it with The Shining. “It’s also the most stoned I’ve ever been on stage with any band,” he also admits.
Adams also dishes on Gram Parsons, joking that he sang like a “big baby” and how he “totally loves” Jerry Garcia’s guitar playing, among other topics including the magic of his PAX-AM Studio in Los Angeles and how it shaped his new album and current tour.
Adams then welcomed his band The Shining out for a performance of “Gimme Something Good” in an acoustic setting, one of the first times the group has played the tune in such an arrangement.
