Watch Pearl Jam Welcome Brandi Carlile, Cover The White Stripes and More in Seattle
Pearl Jam returned to their hometown of Seattle on Wednesday night, kicking off a short US stadium tour with the first of two shows at Safeco Field and offering a few surprises, including welcoming special guest Brandi Carlile and covering The White Stripes and The Beatles during the night’s performance.
After delivering favorites like “Do the Evolution” and “Even Flow,” among others, Eddie Vedder led the band in a cover of The Beatles’ “Help,” which appropriately led into Pearl Jam’s own “Help Help.” Later in the night, Vedder addressed the crowd at the beginning of the first of two encores, pointing out several of the kids in the crowd and lauding the teachers of the world who help their students find their way, before launching into The White Stripes’ “We’re Going to Be Friends” and welcoming out a couple of Seattle-area teachers, accompanied by Vedder’s own daughters, Harper and Olivia.
Continuing the hometown celebration, the first encore (which spanned seven songs) also featured a surprise appearance from Carlile, who helped out on “Again Today,” while the second encore (another seven songs) included “Better Man,” “Yellow Ledbetter,” and covers of Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb,” The Beatles’ “I’ve Got a Feeling” and Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World.”
