Watch: Mumford & Sons Close Bonnaroo Set with Help from My Morning Jacket, Dawes, Hozier and More
Mumford & Sons’ triumphant return to Bonnaroo this weekend saw the band tear through a 20-song set peppered with a healthy batch of songs from their latest Wilder Mind along with tunes from their back catalog. The highlight, however, came in the finale when the group teamed with My Morning Jacket, Dawes, The War on Drugs and others for a closing number in the same vein as their Gentlemen of the Road stopovers, where they invite all the acts on stage for a cover song.
This time, the tune was the Beatles’ “With a Little Help From My Friends” and the cast included members of the bands mentioned along with special guests Ed Helms on banjo (Helms also sat in on the band’s original “Awake My Soul” earlier in the night) as well as photographer Danny Clinch, who manned the harmonica. “A fucking legend,” Mumford proclaimed.
“Even though they’re total dickheads, welcome My Morning Jacket,” Mumford joked as he introduced Jim James, Bo Koster and Patrick Hallahan. Dawes’ Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith also joined the band, with Taylor taking a verse on the tune along with James and Hozier.
“It was a good day. We’ll see you soon,” Mumford exclaimed as he departed the stage following the end jam that featured lots of guitars, headbanging and hair-flipping. Relive it below.
