The members of Metallica sat for a roundtable discussion on Lars Ulrich’s It’s Electric podcast to dissect and remember their opus Master of Puppets, which was recently reissued.

Much of the conversation focuses around the brilliance of former Metallica bassist Cliff Burton, who died in a bus accident during the tour supporting the record. It’s fascinating to listen because current bassist Rob Trujillo is also sitting in on the conversation and shares his perspective on Burton’s playing particularly on the seminal Metallica record. The album’s co-producer and engineer Flemming Rasmussen and mixer Michael Wagener also joined in to share their memories of the making of the album in part one of a two-part conversation.
