Watch: Marcus Mumford and Dawes Join My Morning Jacket in London
Touring schedules are funny sometimes, as they can align perfectly to produce a chance-collaboration much like the one we have here. While on tour in Europe, My Morning Jacket teamed up with Dawes, another group currently on the road in Europe, and Marcus Mumford, who makes his home in London during Mumford’s off-time. It just so happens that Taylor Goldsmith, Jim James and Mumford were all key players in The New Basement Tapes, a reimagining of lost Bob Dylan lyrics that also featured Elvis Costello, Rhiannon Giddens and producer T Bone Burnett. As you’d expect, the ensemble collaborated in London for a tune from that record, “Down on the Bottom.”
The song has predominately appeared at Elvis Costello’s shows, however My Morning Jacket played the tune several times earlier in the year, with their most recent rendition coming at Mumford & Sons’ Waverly, IA Gentlemen of the Road Stopover.
