Watch: Camera Catches Paul McCartney Geeking Out to ELO
Paul McCartney is just the best. He’s got more Fuck You Money than anyone in the world and refuses to stop pushing himself creatively and enjoying the hell out of it while he does so. Last night at The Grammys, Sir Paul performed with, of all people, Rihanna and Kanye West but not before he grooved out to just about every performer. Sitting in the same row as Ryan Adams, Jenny Lewis and Nas, with Nile Rodgers behind him, McCartney was one of the few people who latched onto a rather bland performance from Jeff Lynne’s ELO. McCartney (and at times, Jenny Lewis) stood up grooved along to “Evil Woman” and “Mr. Blue Sky” while most everyone remained seated. The crowd let Sir Paul do his thing, because you don’t want to be the guy who tells Paul McCartney to sit down.
Unfortunately, the CBS cameras cut Macca down before he could really get to some dance moves that would’ve rivaled the stunts he whipped out during Daft Punk’s electric performance last year. It appears as if the cameraman told him to sit down, but footage from an iso camera in the building showed that McCartney just seemed uncomfortable with snarky camera guy right up in his business while he’s trying to cut a rug. Watch the fairly awkward moment below. Keep on doing you, Paul.
Another cool note on this–one of the only other people standing up and dancing in the building? Beyonce, seated just a few rows down.
