Watch Billy Corgan Cover the Grateful Dead’s “Box of Rain” in Brooklyn “For Jerry”

October 17, 2017

Billy Corgan headlined two nights at the Murmrr Theatre in support of his new solo album, where he is performing the new record in full to start the show. Outside of that, Corgan delivered an intriguing cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Box of Rain” late in the show.

Corgan had some light-hearted banter before the song, restarting it briefly after a member of the audience cheered during the opening chord. “This is a song by the Grateful Dead,” Corgan said. “Any stoners out there? Deadheads?,” he continued to sparse cheers. The Smashing Pumpkins frontman then went on to say this one was “for Jerry, man.”
