Music cruises are the perfect setting for intimate, impromptu and spectacular collaborations, as everyone’s within shouting distance from each other for a few days at sea, and this year’s Cayamo Cruise is no exception. One highlight of the seaborne gathering was an all-star performance during a guest-filled late-night set hosted by guitarist Sadler Vaden, who plays in Jason Isbell’s 400 Unit.

Vaden, along with Isbell, dobro master Jerry Douglas and former Gregg Allman Band keyboardist Peter Levin, opted to stretch their improvisational legs on an extended cover of the Allman Brothers Band’s classic “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed,” with each musician showcasing his impressive technical chops. Isbell even showed off some dance moves early on in the tune while Vaden was ripping his solo.
