Steve Gunn and the Black Twig Pickers have collaborated on a new album. Seasonal Hire (which is now available for purchase) presents four originals and one traditional piece, blending experimental sounds with old time Appalachian music. Today we premiere the official music video for “Trailways Ramble,” a song that originally appeared on Gunn’s Time Off album in another form. The Black Twig Pickers’ Mike Gangloff tells Relix, “Steve had cut Trailways Ramble as an instrumental, of course. The idea of adding a vocal to it came up in the middle of the recording session — Sally and I had sung our songs, and we kind of challenged Steve to sing one. He wrote words for Trailways Ramble then and there and we all started coming up with parts and figuring out what instruments to play. That sort of spontaneity is what made music with Steve so much fun, and his willingness to jump in and go for it is one of things I admire most about him.”
