With his new album Asterisk the Universe, John Craigie has been hailed for his literate songcraft and expressive, soulful vocals. While the troubadour has been forced to take some time off the road due to the pandemic, Craigie has released a new video for “Nomad” from Asterisk the Universe, a song that explores life on the road. Today we premiere the video, which offers a live take on the tune, recorded on the Oregon coast at Cape Arago State Park.

Craigie tells Relix, “Last summer, on my way out of Oregon Country Fair, I headed to the coast and played a small show in Charleston, OR.  The next morning a small crew came with me to some cliffs nearby and asked what song I’d like to record. I had ‘Nomads’ in my head that morning and decided to play it for them and see if they thought it would fit their vision.

“Normally a song that sounds best with a lot of people playing and singing along, I was a bit intimidated to do a solo version, but it was the first thing on my mind that day. Here you can see a rare, solo version of this album closure from Asterisk the Universe. I miss the travels and the live shows as does everyone but hopefully this song will carry some of the spirit of that.”

Asterisk the Universe is now available to stream or purchase.
