In the latest issue of Relix, we profile the Amsterdam-based, Turkish-inspired psychedelic act Altın Gün. We note that the band’s music “throws you into a time warp, then you’re not imagining things—it just means the band is successfully doing its thing. Indeed, this multinational collective is stirring up fans across Europe and the States by reimagining Turkish folk standards and cult-rock hits from decades ago, pumping up the fuzz and the funk. The band’s name even means ‘Golden Day’ in Turkish; call them the most innovative Ottoman cover band ever, or even the Dark Star Orchestra of Turkish folk-rock.”

All of this can be heard on the band’s sophomore album Gece, which ATO Records released in April. Altın Gün will be touring throughout North America in July and August and in anticipation, today we are premiering a live video of “Yolcu” from Gece. The band’s vocalist/keyboard player
Merve Daşdemir notes, “Here is ‘Yolcu’ (passenger) by Neset Ertas live at the Bunker. We filmed this in a former bomb shelter in Amsterdam that was constructed in the 1940s. It later became a nightclub and was a popular place for musicians to play in the 1960s – Pink Floyd regularly performed there! The shelter is now a volunteer-run space called the Vondelbunker and they put on concerts, art exhibits, community meetings and more. We have our rehearsal space within the building and this is the second live session we’ve recorded in The Bunker.”

Altın Gün’s tour itinerary appears below the video.
