Umphrey’s McGee and The London Souls Play The Klein (A Gallery)

October 18, 2013

Umphrey’s McGee continued their tour through the Northeast last night with a show at The Klein in Bridgeport, CT. Along with original rarities like “All Things Ninja,” the band also mixed in old covers such as Waylon Jennings’ “Luckenbach, Texas” and Led Zeppelin’s “Fool in the Rain.” The big surprise came early on when Umphrey’s debuted a cover of Bananarama’s “Cruel Summer” out of a jam in the Death By Stereo track “Domino Theory.” Saxophonist Bill Evans also took the stage late in the second set for a take on the UM original “Ocean Billy.” Evans and UM guitarist Jake Cinninger collaborated previously in Chicago for Evans’ Soulgrass project which also featured John Medeski and John Popper.

The London Souls added support to the show and will continue to do so until Umphrey’s lands in Milwaukee for a three-night Halloween run. The Brooklyn rockers will open the Halloween show before giving way to the Cosby Sweater and Boombox the following two nights. Check out photos from the show courtesy of Chad Anderson.
