The Official House Band of Around the Horn kicked off a three-night run at the Beacon Theatre in New York City, decimating the place with a pair of sets heavy on improvisation. The encore was an Umphrey’s special, as the band paid homage to the late David Bowie (they also nodded to Glenn Frey earlier in the set) with an encore medley of “Space Oddity” and “Fame,” a tune they have covered several times before. 

Tony Reali, host of ATH, shared a sneak peek of the band rehearsing their Bowie encore backstage at the Beacon, complete with appearances from regular panelists Frank Isola and Pablo Torre. “Preshow Bowie with Umphrey’s McGee,” Reali wrote on his Twitter account. “Tears streaming down my face as I was belting away,” he added.
