Throwback Thursday: Birthday Boys Jack White and Beck Jam in Providence

Rob Slater on July 9, 2015

Yesterday, the great Beck celebrated his 45th birthday and today, the equally as great Jack White hits the big 4-0. To celebrate, why not revisit that time when they both shared the stage in Providence, RI last summer. Beck was in town on his incredible Morning Phase tour while White was passing through for a rare appearance at Newport Folk Festival as his Lazaretto world tour soldiered on.

Of course, this was as good a time as ever to get these two prolific songwriters on stage, and they did just that during the encore of Beck’s show. Introduced as “the best bartender in the world,” White came on to add acoustic guitar to “Pay No Mind (Snoozer)” from Beck’s 1994 effort Mellow Gold. He then played the iconic slide guitar riff on “Loser” before busting out the electric guitar along with special guest Sean Lennon for an extended “Where It’s At”/”One Foot in the Grave” to close the show.

Check out video of the first two tunes and then listen to the audio of a roaring closing jam with a lengthy solo from White.
