This is Happening: Ryan Adams is Recording Taylor Swift’s ‘1989’

Forget Fare Thee Well, Dead & Company and the rest of it. This is the music story of the year. Call it. It’s over.

Ryan Adams has joked on Twitter about following up his punk rock-EP 1984 with a cover of Taylor Swift’s album 1989. Well, it looks like that’s exactly what’s happening as Adams has shared some footage of him at his own PAX-AM Studio with his band recording a Smiths-inspired cover version of the pop album.

“Guaranteed saddest version of ‘Welcome to New York’ ever – or your tears back,” Adams wrote in an Instagram video with a clip of his take on the single to the smash record. According to his Instagram, Adams has also recorded “Blank Space” and “Style.” As he noted in a tweet to Swift, “We’re sandblasting them and they’re holding steady.” God bless America.

Watch the clip below.

Thankfully, someone alerted Swift of the happenings at PAX-AM and she’s struggling to contain herself.

She’s totally calm.
