Song Premiere: The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band “Dirty Swerve”
The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band will release their new album Poor Until Payday on October 5. The group, which features Peyton on guitar and vocals, his wife Breezy on washboard and vocals, along with Max Senteney on drums, is renowned for delivering an animated, percussive country blues. On Poor Until Payday the band recorded together in a room using only minimal micing with the goal of restoring ‘the warmth, pops and hisses mostly eliminated by modern-day compression.” Peyton appears on his own custom-made National steel resonator and a variety of vintage instruments, including a 1949 Harmony Archtop, a 1954 Supro Dual Tone and a 1955 Kay Speed Demon through a 1949 Supro amp.
Today we premiere “Dirty Swerve” from Poor Until Payday (which is now available for pre-order). The Reverend tells Relix, “The song really just started as a nod to the dance craze called the Dirty Swerve, but it has grown into this fun trance blues number that we love to play. My favorite part though is Washboard Breezy’s singing on the song.”
