Song Premiere: Hamish Anderson “You Give Me Something”

Newly-minted Australian guitar hero Hamish Anderson will release his second record, Out of My Head, later this year. This is the follow-up to his critically hailed debut Trouble, which was produced by Jim Scott (Tom Petty, Tedeschi Trucks Band). Anderson relocated to the United States in 2014 and was the last artist to open for B.B. King (one of Anderson’s longtime idols). He is currently back in his home country on a tour with Gary Clark Jr. To mark the occasion, he has released a new song from the forthcoming record.
Anderson tells Relix, “‘You Give Me Something’ is a full blown, dirty, fuzzy, pure rock and roll track. It was the first song we recorded for my new album Out of My Head out at producer’s Jim Scott’s PLYRZ studios in LA — and it really set the tone for the way we recorded the whole album. We all played live in the room together so it was all about feel, rather than perfection. I was playing a beautiful cream Les Paul custom that Jim owns and I turned my Analogman Sunface Fuzz pedal all the way up. Doing that to the pedal makes it very junky sounding (in the best possible way) and it has a lot of swagger. Sonically, I wanted something that sounded like a cross between John Lee Hooker and Marc Bolan in the modern age. It’s basically a song about something everyone can relate to – lust. ”
