Song Premiere: Astroturf Noise “Orange Blossom Bullet Train” (feat. Billy Martin)

Astroturf Noise, hailing from New York City, aim to explore the intersection between bluegrass and free improvisation. Their eponymous debut album is due out on March 13, and today we are premiering the first single from the upcoming record, “Orange Blossom Bullet Train.”

The trio, made up of Sam Day Harmet (mandolin/fx), Sana Nagano (violin/fx) and Zach Swanson (bass), describe their music as “synthetic grass for synthetic times.” (Quote via press release.) That is on full display during “Orange Blossom Bullet Train,” which also features renowned drummer Billy Martin of Medeski, Martin & Wood.

“Our Orange Blossom Bullet Train is an attempt to push that concept as far as it will go with the bullet train tearing into effect-laden noise territory and strange new dissonant turns,” mandolinist Harmet told Relix.
