Someone Posed as Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker at an Australian Music Awards Red Carpet and Absolutely Pulled It Off

December 1, 2017

Australia’s ARIA Music Awards took place earlier this week in Sydney, and a trio of surprisingly convincing celebrity lookalikes took over the event’s red carpet for a bit, including one guy who made a damn good pass at being Tame Impala frontman Kevin Parker.

As Stereogum points out, the trickery was organized by Australian morning radio hosts from station Triple J, as the show’s hosts brought together three fans who looked enough like Parker, Meg Mac and Adam Hyde of Aussie electronic duo Peking Duk to fool more than a few onlookers and interviewers. It’s hard to blame them, though, as the three really pulled off the prank with aplomb (although the Hyde lookalike’s spot was blown up when he sidled up to the real deal, who ended up being several inches taller).

Parker’s doppelgänger was the real star of the carpet though, matching the songwriter’s laid-back aura and answering questions like a real pro – playing coy at a question about Rihanna being on his contact list and even giving some life advice, saying, “Life’s too short to be worried about winning awards…we’re just here to have fun.”

Good on you, anonymous imposter. Watch via Triple J below.
