Abe Vigoda, famed actor known for his role as Phil Fish in the 70s TV show Barney Miller as well as in the iconic Godfather film, passed away today at the age of 94, the AP reported. The cause of death was reportedly old age as Vigoda passed away in his sleep at his daughter Carol Vigoda Fuchs’ home in Woodland Park, New Jersey.
Vigoda was most recently name-checked in Phish’s “Wombat” tune and even got a chance to join the band on stage on Halloween in 2013 when the band visited Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall. After a dancer came out dressed in a wombat suit, Vigoda emerged at the end of the tune much to the delight of the band and crowd. The band also released a skit with Vigoda and the members of Phish in the vein of The Godfather.
