Pro-Shot Video: Umphrey’s McGee Deliver a Rollercoaster “Phil’s Farm” at Red Rocks

Umphrey’s McGee always go hard, but they seem to up the ante with their West Coast swings—and doubly so for their annual runs at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The group just finished up another round of raging on the Rocks this weekend, and the UM camp decided to give us a taste of what kind of shenanigans they got up to with a newly released pro-shot video of “Phil’s Farm” from Friday night. On this Tuesday morning, it’s a welcome multi-genre slap in the face.

Umphrey’s are masters at jumping from section to section of their songs without ever missing a beat, and “Phil’s Farm” puts that on full display. The classic UM tune kicks off with their signature prog-rock aggression led by guitarists Jake Cinninger and Brendan Bayliss, quickly giving way to a country-fried shuffle with lightning-fast picking from Cinninger, before the whole thing dies down into a jazzy, loungy middle section that features some choice falsetto vocals from Bayliss. The song, of course, is then rounded out with another round of metal-esque riffs.

Watch below. Next up for Umphrey’s McGee is a slot at this weekend’s Great South Bay Music Festival in Patchogue, NY.
