Premiere: Relix, Superhuman Happiness and Red Bull Team Up for New Song

August 21, 2013

Earlier this summer, Red Bull held their annual Creation competition in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Williamsburg. This year’s theme was Signal To Noise: Create a Musical Instrument. Six qualifying teams were flown to New York to compete for 72 hours to create a brand new way to make music. Red Bull contacted Relix to find a band that would be interested in creating original music with something produced by one of the six teams. We immediately looked to Superhuman Happiness. Led by Stuart Bogie, this Antibalas group released one of our favorite records of the year so far and has a propensity for creative endeavors.

With the Virginia-based North Street Labs’ The Treequencer selected out of the six instrument, Superhuman Happiness ventured into Red Bull Studios New York to cut a new song with the instrument. The band quickly got to work and in no time figured out how to work with The Treequencer and created the song “Walk The Line.” Here’s a look at the creative process behind the new song “Walk The Line.”

Here’s the music video for “Walk The Line.”

As always, Superhuman Happiness is freakishly busy. They recently led an all-star performance at Lincoln Center with Afrobeat icon Tony Allen, Kronos Quartet, M1 (of dead prez), Sahr Ngaujah, Sinkane and Alex Toth and Kalmia Traver (of Rubblebucket) as part of the Red Hot + FELA LIVE!. Be sure to keep an eye and ear out for a forthcoming cover of an indelible song from the ‘80s. In addition, they’ve added the following tour dates:
